Tonja Smith is the Founder and CEO of Allegheny Community Home Care, overseeing a $4.3 million dollar organization, which was established in 2015. Her organization provides in-home and community support for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Since its inception, Smith has successfully added two new programs including behavioral and community supports, while expanding its geographic footprint in Allegheny county to nine locations including establishing a corporate headquarters.
With a major focus on collaboration for those who are disabled and underserved, Smith has fostered partnerships with a host of organizations, including E.A.R.N, FamilyLinks, Mon Valley, Allegheny County, and the Office of Developmental Programs.
A seasoned health care executive, Smith has nearly 22 years of experience working in large, complex health systems, including University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and Allegheny Health Network, in Pittsburgh, PA. Prior to moving to Pittsburgh, Smith managed the Ambulatory Surgical Center and Patient Financial Services department of Emory Healthcare in Atlanta, GA.
An avid community leader, Smith is active in several community and charitable based organizations such as the United Way, WELD Pittsburgh, African American Chambers of Commerce, The Neighborhood Academy, and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. In 2014, Smith was a charter member, and now is the immediate past president of the National Association of Health Service Executives, Pittsburgh Chapter.
Smith received her master’s degree in Healthcare Administration from Keller Graduate School of Management, and completed her bachelor’s degree with honors in Business Administration from Morris Brown College in Atlanta, GA.
